About Katherine

    Katherine Palthey, MBA, FGA, ASG, Accredited Senior Gemologist is an independent gem and jewelry consultant living in the south of France. For the past nineteen years, Katherine has sourced and evaluated French antique jewelry and small collectibles. After finishing her MBA in International Business in 1991, she moved to France and taught Business classes to graduate students. In 1997,  Katherine completed her French Auctioneer Certificate and worked privately with international antique dealers and collectors. She consulted and sourced 18th and 19th century silvers and collectibles, organized client visits, translated documents and negotiations and coordinated overseas deliveries.
    

    In 2005, Katherine specialized further and added French fine and fantasy jewelry to her portfolio. In 2014, she furthered her education in identifying gemstones and treatments by commiting to the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) two-year Diploma. After accomplishing the title FGA in June 2016, she opened her own independent consulting company Gem Expert Consulting (GEC) to help others identify and understand clearly what treasures they have.
    In October 2016, she was granted the title Accredited Senior Gemologist from the Accredited Gemologists Association. She believes in truthful sharing of knowledege - no under or over estimating - just accurate honest evaluations!
